Projects & Campaigns
Ongoing: Coalition to Prevent the Re-Opening of the Idaho-Maryland Mine: We are working with several environmental groups in Nevada County on various local environmental issues, including the movement to prevent the re-opening of the Idaho-Maryland mine. The legacy of mining in this area has led to pollution of area streams. To find out more go to the Wolf Creek Alliance.
Slide Presentations on the Wonder of Creation: For over 30 years the Reverend Don Baldwin, board member of Earth Justice Ministries, has inspired audiences and churches with his wide-screen, panoramic slide programs of Yosemite and the High Sierras. His presentations feature color slide photographs of the natural world that fill three large panoramic screens, and are accompanied by beautiful stereo music and inspirational narration that highlight the sacred quality of the natural world. Don has many such multimedia presentations; each one presents dramatic and inspiring images of the Sierra-Nevada mountains. One, for instance, is a John Muir feature entitled “Yosemite: The Range of Light.” Don is a retired United Methodist pastor who has served in many positions, including as the Resident Minister in Yosemite and as pastor at Lake Tahoe. He is available for preaching and slide presentations on the beauty and wonder of creation. He also does a great first person, in-costume presentation of John Wesley, suitable for Sunday worship services. Contact Don at (530) 274-1519 or dbmediaarts@earthlink.net.
Alternatives to Violence Project: Earth Justice Ministries board member Guarionex Delgado has been going into prisons as a facilitator with the Alternatives to Violence Project, which works with people inside and outside the prisons to bring the alternatives to violence project to prisoners and communities. The project also does nonviolence trainings in other venues. To find out more go to http://www.avpcalifornia.org/.
